2023-24 Dress Code Reveal Picture

After significant review by committees made up of students, parents, and staff across Community ISD, the District has released the 2023-24 school year dress code. This dress code will not go into effect until the start of the 2023-24 school year, but the District wanted to make sure the dress code was released well enough in advance for students and parents to have time to prepare for next year.

The dress code was developed through the collaboration of the Community For Community committee, the Superintendent Input Committee, the campus administrations of McClendon Elementary, Roderick Elementary, NeSmith Elementary, Edge Middle School, and Community High School, and district administration. Two options were presented to these committees, and a modified version of one of those two options was approved by all parties and will go into effect on August 7, 2023, which is the first day of the 2023-24 school year.

Changes were made to the dress code to address complaints of inconsistency across campuses in dress code discipline, and to simplify expectations. The new dress code, which will not go into effect until August 7, 2023, follows below:

  • Clothing (pants, shorts, and skirts) with holes/tears must be below fingertip length.

  • All shorts, athletic shorts, skirts, and dresses must fall below fingertip length.

  • Skirts and dresses must have modesty shorts underneath.

  • Yoga pants, athletic shorts, joggers, jeggings, leggings, tights, exercise/training sportswear, or excessively tight pants must be worn with a shirt or skirt that extends below fingertip length.

  • No head coverings unless there is a medical or religious exemption filed with the campus.

  • Tops that reveal shoulders or midriffs or the chest are unacceptable.

  • For all tops, items that display pictures, slogans, or language that is provocative, offensive, violent, profane, sexual, drug related, tobacco related, gang related, or promotes death or hate messages will not be permitted.

  • ID Badges must be visible at all times for 6th through 12th grade students.

  • All footwear must have a hard sole.

  • Final decisions on all dress code matters will be made by campus administration.
